New Year, New You: 5 Keys to Your Health Resolutions’ Success (Part 1: Planning Ahead)

With every new year, there always comes resolutions and goals to improve our lives.

The new year brings hope and second chances. We often feel that maybe this is the year we can finally get the life we’ve always wanted. Maybe this is the year we will actually learn to play the piano, get that job we’ve been looking at, or finally visit Paris.

But without fail, for most (if not all of us), at least one of our resolutions is health, fitness and wellness related.

Yet, after a good month or two of sticking to our health goals things get tough and slowly but surely, we fall off the bandwagon.

This happens to the best of us, so don’t be discouraged! It’s common for something that was once exciting in the beginning to not be as exciting later on as the routine sets in.

BUT!

I’m here to help you make sure that in this upcoming new year things will be different and you WILL not only stick with your health and fitness plans, but you will ACCOMPLISH all your goals!

Over the next 5 weeks, I will be sharing 5 keys to help you be successful in all of your health resolutions’. There will be a blog post and a video to accompany each key!

This week we start with the first key: PLANNING AHEAD.

Planning Ahead makes all the difference in being successful in just about everything you do.

Whether in a project at work or even buying all your Christmas gifts, planning out step-by-step what you have to do will lead to a higher rate of success than if you didn’t plan.

There are three core things you must do in order to effectively plan ahead: plan to plan, make it simple, and have accountability.

1. PLAN TO PLAN

There is nothing worse than going into a new season or new project without a plan! Rather than making sure you have all the resources and time you need to work towards your goal each day (i.e. being PROACTIVE), you will instead go into each day ill-equipped to actually accomplish the steps you need to do that day.

For example, if your goal is to go to the gym after work each evening during the week, the best thing to do is to make sure your gym bag is packed from the night before or the morning of. The worst thing to do is try and run home right before the gym because once you’re home you may just want to stay home!

Therefore, in order to make sure you are well equipped to accomplish your health and fitness goals each day, take some time at the beginning of the week (even on Sunday) to plan out the week and schedule in both exercise and meal prep! By doing this, you will know what days work best for you to move forward in the goals you have set for yourself which will surely lead you to much success!

2. KEEP IT SIMPLE

Honestly, one of the main reasons people quit their health resolutions early on is because they are trying to make TOO many changes at one time! This is the worst for our bodies and minds!

You must start small and you must keep it simple. It takes time to make lasting change so it is best to take on 1-2 new habits or goals at a time, to ensure that you are setting yourself up to create healthy habits that LAST and create change that lasts.

So as you are thinking about your health goals for the new year, think of 1-2 goals that you can work on (make them S.M.A.R.T. goals) and create a plan of action to work towards those goals each week.

3. HAVE ACCOUNTABILITY

I don’t know about you, but when I’m accountable to someone for the work I do or goals I want to accomplish, I DEFINITELY make more of an effort to complete that goals. I simply hate to let people down and am really proud when they are proud of me. That sometimes gets me into trouble, but for the most part is SUPER effective at keeping me on track with my goals in health, business and life!

There are so many ways you can get accountability in your health journey! You can join an online community committed to supporting each other in their health journey (feel free to join mine >>HERE<<), ask a friend to check in with you a couple times a week, or even hire a trainer or coach that will be ensuring you are staying on track!

Accountability has been a GAME CHANGER in just about every area of my health, business and life and I know that it will give you the results you need as well!
