6 Essential Oils to Help Manage Your Emotions

I’m going to be honest with you and say that I was NOT a believer that essential oils could help me manage my emotions.

How could an oil blend called “Forgive” or “Console” could help me forgive someone or give me comfort during a tough time. It was easier for me to believe that oil blends like “Motivate” or “Cheer” could uplift my spirits and motivate me to a positive emotion, but I was a bit reluctant that oils could take my negative emotions and give me “Peace” or “Passion” again.

Then I learned the power of aroma on our emotions, how essential oils could help me embrace all my positive and negative feelings, while also not letting me stay too long in emotions that weren’t helpful for me in the long run.

SO!

In light of the Emotional Aromatherapy with Essential Oils Class I am teaching this Thursday, I wanted to share with ALL of you a bit about how essential oils could support you in managing your emotions in a natural and safe way! I’ll share a bit about the science behind aroma and emotions and six oil blends that I know you will love.

The Science Behind Emotions and Aroma

After hearing stories of individuals shift their emotions by smelling some of these blends, I started to look into how smell impacts our emotions and bodies more

You see, when you smell anything it impacts your Limbic System, which is a portion of our brain to where around 90% of our behavior is tied. The amygdala is known as the emotion center of the brain and is located in the Limbic System. The amygdala plays a huge role in processing and storing emotions and is stimulated by aroma or sense of smell.

Thus, what we smell plays a huge role in our emotions and how we feel – angry, sad, happy, joyful, etc.

All this to say, when we choose to take in a certain aroma or smell, we can literally shift our thoughts and emotions from one of NEGATIVE emotions to one of POSITIVE emotions.

And who wouldn’t want that?

Yes, we have negative emotions and those aren’t bad in itself; but having them linger too long is what leads to issues. Negative emotions and feelings will impact our brain, which will impact the various systems and hormones in our body, leading to a body that isn’t operating at its optimal capacity.

Therefore, caring for our emotions is a must!

Six Essential Oils to Help Manage Your Emotions

When it comes to managing our emotions, my husband and I have been especially using essential oils to help us when we are feeling lack of motivation, upset, stressed, and even discouraged.

Our favorite oils to use are the six oil blends below!

1.Motivate (Encouraging Blend): This blend is filled with peppermint, Melissa leaf, rosemary, vanilla, clementine peel and more! It helps promote feelings of confidence, courage and belief. My husband and I roll this on every morning before we leave for work, stirring up the motivation to be productive and get our tasks done!

2. Cheer (Uplifting Blend): This is a lovely blend of spice and citrus oils such as wild orange, clove bud, cinnamon ginger and so much more lovely oils of goodness. This blend promotes feelings of optimism, cheerfulness and happiness. It may also counteract negative emotions of feeling down, blue or low. I love diffusing this oil when I’m hitting the mid-day slump! It rejuvenates me and makes me feel joy in finishing the tasks for the day.

3. Passion (Inspiring Blend): This blend is all about helping you remember your why and re-discover your passion again! Blended with herbs and spices like jasmine, cinnamon, clove, sandalwood and dandelion, this oil blend will ignite feelings of joy, passion and excitement again!

4. Peace (Reassuring Blend): Who doesn’t need peace in their life? I know I do! This blend is filled with oils like frankincense, vetiver, marjoram and lavender to calm you and reassure you in anxious and stressful times. I love diffusing this at night or simply smelling it from the bottle when feeling anxious or overwhelmed.

5. Forgive (Renewing Blend): How can an oil help you forgive? Well this oil blend is filled with tree and herb scents that promote feelings of contentment, relief, patience and that everything is going to be okay. Citronella, Myrrh, Arborvitae, Thyme and more make this blend one of nature and tranquility, allowing you to move past the hurts and forgive.

6. Console (Comforting Blend): We all have times were we need comfort and we need hope. There are pains in life that seem like they can be just too much too bear. This blend contains frankincense, rose, sandalwood, ylang ylang and more! I’ve used this oil in times where I have felt disappointed, hopeless and needed some extra comfort.

Which Oil Blend Speaks To Your Heart?

What about you?

What oil speaks to your current emotional state? Are you struggling with resentment, hopelessness, or anxiety? Maybe you need some comfort around this holiday season.

Wherever you are at, let me first say that you are not alone and you don’t need to hide what you are feeling. Emotions are a part of being human and we must embrace them. Yet, we don’t have to let them control us either.

I hope that you will embrace all of your emotions and who you are, and at the same time, use oils like the ones above to really help you embrace the true and abundant life I know you were made for.

P.S. Be sure to comment and let me know what emotion and oil blend best speaks to you <3
