DigestZen Essential Oil

DigestZen Essential is definitely one that you want in on hand for any and every digestive issue (in my opinion!)

Last year as part of the Continuing Education series I’m doing on doTERRA’s essential oils in the Healthy and Thriving Women and my team’s private Facebook group, I went through the basics, science, sourcing, safety, uses, and emotions of Digest Zen essential oil on FB!

Below I’ve recapped what we went through via podcast, video or blog post!

BASICS OF ON DIGESTZEN ESSENTIAL OIL

This is one of my FAVORITE blends from doTERRA and perfect for just about any tummy upset! It’s the PERFECT one to have on hand during the holiday season when we are eating some foods (and some quantities!) we aren’t used to eating.

Digestive Blend is known as a “tummy tamer” blend due to its ability to aid in digestion, soothe stomach upset, and maintain overall digestive health.

This unique blend contains Ginger, Fennel, and Coriander to help ease stomach discomfort, including motion sickness and indigestion, while Peppermint, Tarragon, Anise, and Caraway aid with digestion and help maintain a healthy gastrointestinal tract.

It can be taken internally as well as applied topically to the abdomen when stomach upset occurs and can be used safely by the entire family.

This ESSENTIAL OIL BLEND is a healthy, natural, and gentle way to soothe an upset stomach or maintain a healthy digestive system.

• Eases feelings of queasiness.
• Helps reduce bloating, gas, and occasional indigestion.

SCIENCE OF DIGEST ZEN ESSENTIAL OIL

DigestZen contains peppermint, ginger, fennel, annise, carraway, tarragon, and coriander!

CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS

Here is a summary of the chemical family and constituent of a few oils below:

– Peppermint – Menthol, Menthone, a-pinenes, b-pinenes, Methyl acetate
– Ginger – alpha-zingiberene
– Fennel – benzene, Anethole, Limonene

Together these oils and the other natural elements of the DigestZen blend make it a perfect blend for any digestive and gastrointestinal concern like bloating, colitis, constipation, cramps, food poisoning, heartburn, nausea, Chron’s disease, gastritis, and much more!

Today, the main chemical constituent we will talk about is Alpha-zingiberene, found in Ginger Essential OIl!

According to doTERRA, “Ginger essential oil is made up of a chemical group called sesquiterpenes, which are commonly found in soothing essential oils like Ylang Ylang and Myrrh oil. Ginger oil includes sesquiterpenes called zingiberene and sesquiphellandrene, which contribute to digestive health when used internally and promote the grounding and balance of emotions when used aromatically.*

Alpha zingiberene, the sesquiterpene that is the primary chemical constituent of ginger essential oil, is what gives ginger its distinct taste. The chemical makeup of Ginger oil contributes to its soothing properties for the body, including its ability to support healthy digestion and to reduce occasional nausea when taken internally, or to create a soothing massage.”

Thus, the Ginger alone makes this oil a GREAT choice for your digestive concerns and needs!

THERAPEUTIC BENEFITS

Furthermore, the chemical constituents of Digest Zen Blend give the essential oil the following properties:

– Anti-inflammatory
– Analgesic
– Antispasmodic
– Warming
– Invigorating
– Cooling
– Expectorant
– Stimulating
– Laxative
– Neurotonic
– Diruetic
– Antiparasitic

SOURCING OF DIGESTZEN ESSENTIAL OIL

Because DigestZen is a blend of oils and natural components, the oils come from different places!

– PEPPERMINT: Washington State – doTERRA’s peppermint essential oil is sourced from Washington State from local peppermint farmers. The Pacific Northwest is for peppermint because of the high amounts of rainfall they have each year. This gives the peppermint a high menthol content, which gives it its sweet, minty aroma and flavor.

– GINGER: Madagascar – dōTERRA Ginger essential oil is taken from the rhizome, or underground stem, of the ginger plant. A highly aromatic plant, ginger has thick roots, long shoots with leaves, and pale flowers—though the rhizome or root of the ginger plant is most useful for flavoring and other applications. Madagascar’s climate makes it perfect to grow and harvest quality ginger essential oil

– FENNEL: Egypt – Fennel is an evergreen perennial native to the Mediterranean and is now typically grown in herb and vegetable gardens. Known for its licorice flavor and aroma, fennel produces flowers, fragrant leaves, and most importantly, fennel seeds—from which essential oil is extracted.

SAFETY OF DIGESTZEN ESSENTIAL OIL

Digest Zen essential oil is a very versatile and safe oil to use. However, read on below to learn more about how you can use it safely.

WHO: It’s great for all ages, those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and even dogs.

APPLICATION: This oil can be used AROMATICALLY, TOPICALLY, and INTERNALLY and is “neat” – can go on without a carrier oil. However, I would recommend dilution and carrier oil for children.

Like most essential oils, try to avoid contact with the eyes, inner ears, and sensitive areas.
.
DOSAGE: None – but dilute if necessary (especially due to the ginger).
.
SHELF LIFE: Typical shelf life is roughly 2 years as well! You can look at the bottom of your doTERRA lavender bottle for the expiration date.

SAFETY PRECAUTION: However, be sure to keep OUT of the reach of children because even though it’s safe, we want to be careful they don’t OVEREXPOSE themselves to it. Also, if you are pregnant or under a doctor’s care, feel free to consult with them if you’re concerned.

Note – this information is just based on my understanding and is just for doTERRA’s Frankincense- you will need to do your research on other lemon essential oils.

EMOTIONS BEHIND DIGESTZEN ESSENTIAL OIL

I though in addition to talking about the basics, science, sourcing, safety, and uses of essential oils, I would also do a section on the emotional aspect of each oil!

This is taken from the “Emotions & Essential Oils: A Modern Resource for Healing” Guide – 4th Edition.

(DigestZen is known as the “Oil of Digestion”)

“The Digestive Blend was formulated to support the body’s digestive system. It also has a powerful emotional quality for supporting individuals who lack interest in life and the physical world. The individual may have a tendency to “bit off more than they can chew” by trying to do TOO MUCH at once. This overload of information and stimulation may lead to an emotional form of “indigestion,” where the individual cannot break down life experiences into palatable forms.

The soul literally becomes overfed and undernourished, as it cannot translate its experiences into a usable form. When the individual is fully overwhelmed and overstimulated, they may lose their appetite for food, life and the physical world in general. They may become apathetic about their situation and begin neglecting their body’s basic needs.

Digestive Blend combines the powerful oils of Ginger, Peppermint and other spices to support the body and the spirit in assimilating new information and events. It increases an individual’s ability to receive new information, new relationships and new experiences and be open to new possibilities. This blend powerfully aids individuals in digesting life’s many experiences.”

SUMMARY:

Negative Emotions: Loss of appetite for food or life, inability to assimilate new information or experiences, over simulated

Positive Emotions: Enthusiasm, nourished, interested, assimilating new information and events
