Health Coaching Testimonial #2: Managing Stress and Increasing Energy

Too much stress and too little energy are two main health concerns I’ve heard many talk about in the last few years. With the busyness of life, things can get overwhelming and tiresome, leading many of us to often feel stressed and tired. However, we do not have to accept stress and tiredness as normal and we can make changes to be less stressed and experience more energy.

After discussing more on stress and lack of energy below, I will share just how one of my current clients, Kurt Bulgin, has chosen to fight these two common health issues through one-on-one health coaching.

Stress

Stress. Everyone has it and everyone tries their best to manage it. Whether it’s being stressed about how a project is going to get done in time, whether or not a sick loved one will recover, or even the stress of the holidays, stress is inevitable. 

Further to that, stress not only impairs and messes with our hunger/craving signals making us eat less or more, but it also saps our energy and can lead to many chronic health issues. Some of these health issues include: chronic systematic inflammation, autoimmune diseases, and even depression.

Lack of Energy

As well as stress sapping our energy, many of us have voiced that we lack energy and feel lethargic throughout the day. This could be for a variety of reasons, including:

  1. Lack of Sleep and Rest
  2. Chronic Stress
  3. Busy and Fast-Paced Lives
  4. Chronic Health Concerns and issues
  5. What we are eating

In regards to our daily diet, what we are eating significantly determines what our energy level will be like each day. Processed and refined foods tend to lack nutrients, have preservatives and additives that mess with our bodies, and have a lot of carbohydrates (which always turns into sugar in your body) and added sugar. This excess of carbs and sugar always leads to an energy high and is always followed by an energy crash.

Therefore, if we find ourselves eating a lot of nutrient-deficient processed foods and carbohydrates and consequently are lacking nutrient-rich whole foods, our energy levels will always be up and down, and up and down.

Health Coaching as a Solution

These two issues, stress and energy levels, has been the main focus of the coaching sessions for my good friend and client, Kurt Bulgin. For the last few months, Kurt and I have met twice a month, to figure out not only ways for him to add-in more nutrient-rich foods and crowd out more nutrient-deficient foods, but how to better manage the current stressors going on in his life.

And what a gift it’s been for ME to just see Kurt accomplish many of his health goals in those two areas and beyond, in a very short time! Kurt has worked hard to implement the recommendations and next steps we came up with after each session and has always been open and honest about where he was in his health and where he wanted to be.

Kurt has been my friend since high school and I’ve had the privilege to go to school with him, work with him, and now journey with him in discovering what it means to thrive in every area of his life. Honestly, every time I leave a coaching session with Kurt, I feel like I am the one being coached simply because we talk about real things and come up with action steps that I personally even wanted to implement in my life.

Kurt has been such a great client and I cannot wait to see him continue to conquer stress, increase his energy and thrive in every area of his life.
