BASICS OF ON FRANKINCENSE ESSENTIAL OIL

Renowned as one of the most prized and precious Essential Oils, Frankincense has extraordinary internal and external health benefits.

In addition to its fame as a kingly gift in the New Testament, the Babylonians and Assyrians would burn Frankincense in religious ceremonies and the ancient Egyptians used Frankincense resin for everything from perfume to salves for soothing skin.

This centuries-old knowledge contributes to the modern uses of Frankincense today. It’s soothing and
beautifying properties are used to rejuvenate skin and reduce the appearance of scars and stretch marks.

As the king of oils, Frankincense is known to promote cellular health and immunity and can be consumed daily for these internal benefits.

It also promotes a healthy inflammatory response and acts as an overall tonic to the body’s systems, helping them function optimally.

When inhaled or diffused, Frankincense induces feelings of peace, relaxation, satisfaction, and overall wellness.

• Known as the “KING of ALL OILS”
• Promotes cellular health and DNA integrity
• Supports healthy function of the nervous system
• Reduces appearance of skin imperfections

SCIENCE OF FRANKINCENSE ESSENTIAL OIL

CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS

The main constituents of doTERRA’s frankincense is a-phellandrenes, a-thujene, and Alpha-pinene.

From the Frankincense Essential Oil bottle I have, I was able to look up the chemical constituents and see that alpha-Pinene is 38.49% of the bottle and alpha-Thujene is 14.49%

These chemical constituents are monoterpenes which are metabolized quickly in the body, can be highly volatile, but fast acting. They also contribute to Frankincense essential oil’s renewing effects when applied topically and ability to support diverse cells in the body when taken internally.* The monoterpenes also contribute to the aromatic benefits of Frankincense oil, including its ability to promote relaxation and a sense of focus.

Furthermore, the chemical constituents of Lemon give the essential oil the following properties:

– Immunostimulant
– Anticancer
– Anti-inflammatory
– Antidepressant
– Restorative

SOURCING OF FRANKINCENSE ESSENTIAL OIL

Here’s a bit about where doTERRA’s Frankincense comes from!

SOURCING – Somalia!

“For thousands of years, frankincense resins have been harvested in Somalia from wild Boswellia trees like Carterii and Frereana. Boswellia carterii trees typically grow best in sandy soil, producing small resin tears. The resin tears from the Carterii species are some of the most commonly harvested types of resin, and usually have a very round shape. Unlike the Carterii trees, Frereana trees do not thrive on sandy soil, but need a dry, rocky climate to produce the largest resin of the Boswellia species.

Harvesting Frankincense resin is a delicate process that requires careful planning and precise skill and takes over five months to complete the process. Frankincense harvesters must travel long distances, leaving their families and communities behind. They often live in caves along the way as they harvest frankincense resins from remote locations. Once the tears are harvested, the resin is carefully cleaned, separated, and organized (by size and color) typically by women.

Despite the lengthy and difficult harvesting process, harvesters are often unable to sell their frankincense resins for a fair price. Because of the intense harvesting process and the lack of adequate payment, a large portion of the available frankincense trees in Somalia have not been harvested.

The doTERRA Co-Impact Sourcing Initiative provides frankincense harvesters with fair wages and on-time payments (including food and cash prepayments spread out during the year) by working around the layers of middlemen and instead working directly with those who harvest and sort the frankincense. This arrangement provides a much more stable and reliable income to frankincense harvesters.

doTERRA is also working with our partners to ensure that the cleaning and sorting of the frankincense resins takes place as close to the harvesting locations as possible so that these important jobs (typically held by women) remain in rural areas where they are most needed and benefit the harvesting families. Our initiative also ensures that these women receive fair wages and that they are able to work in more favorable working conditions. Along with these sustainable sourcing efforts, the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation™ has also funded the construction of two new schools for hundreds of students from harvester clans. For more information, see more here. These efforts are making a positive impact for improving the rural families’ livelihoods.”

SAFETY OF FRANKINCENSE ESSENTIAL OIL

Frankincense essential oil is a very versatile and safe oil to use.

WHO: It’s great for all ages, those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and even dogs.

APPLICATION: This oil can be used AROMATICALLY, TOPICALLY, and INTERNALLY and is “neat” – can go on without a carrier oil. However, I would recommend dilution and carrier oil for children.

Like most essential oils, try to avoid contact with the eyes, inner ears, and sensitive areas.

DOSAGE: None – but dilute if necessary.

SHELF LIFE: Typical shelf life is roughly 2 years as well! You can look at the bottom of your doTERRA lavender bottle for the expiration date.

SAFETY PRECAUTION: However, be sure to keep OUT of the reach of children because even though it’s safe, we want to be careful they don’t OVEREXPOSE themselves to it. Also, if you are pregnant or under a doctor’s care, feel free to consult with them if you’re concerned.

Note – this information is just based on my understanding and is just for doTERRA’s Frankincense- you will need to do your research on other lemon essential oils.
